Graduate Nurse Fellowship

Due to the limited number of openings, we are screening candidates based on the following criteria; 2 letters of recommendations from clinical instructors, work experience as a patient care tech/unit secretary, externship participation and GPA.

We will not have GN openings in our ICU or Mother/Baby areas.  All positions rotate shifts, require a holiday and weekend rotation.  To receive consideration, please apply online for one of our open Registered Nurse positions.

This program  is designed to facilitate the transition of a newly graduated nurse into a confident, effective staff nurse. The program includes clinical experiences, interactive workshops, role observations and specialty courses in a supportive environment.

Applicants will be contacted by the end of February, 2011 to schedule an interview
and will be notified of their selection status by March 18, 2011.

Externs must confirm their acceptance by April 1 2011.

Overview
The Nurse Externship Program provides an opportunity for BSN student nurses to work side-by-side
with an experienced RN mentor gaining a better understanding of the registered nurse’s role.

The Nurse Externship Program provides an opportunity for BSN student nurses to work side-by-side with an experienced RN mentor gaining a better understanding of the registered nurse’s role.

  • Application period — January 17, 2011 to February 11, 2011
  • 9-week summer program — May 16, 2011 to July 16, 2011
  • Paid salary — $10.50 per hour with shift and weekend differential
  • Part-time (24 hours per week) or full-time (36-40 hours per week)
  • Experience one of St. Louis magazine’s “Great Places to Work “

Admission Criteria

  • Current student in good standing at a Missouri or Illinois BSN program, or reside in Missouri or Illinois with enrollment elsewhere in a BSN program
  • 2 semesters of clinical experience completed
  • Current AHA or ARC BLS certification
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Graduate within one year of externship program
  • Complete application and interview
  • 2 letters of recommendation from faculty members

Candidates Accepted into the Program

  • Are required to complete a Missouri Baptist Medical Center employment application
  • Must meet Missouri Baptist Medical Center job-related health requirements
  • Are required to complete all employment screenings

-CPR certification

  • Must provide health status documentation

-PPD

  • May work extra hours as a patient care tech pending availability and performance without exceeding 40 hours per week
  • May remain employed at Missouri Baptist Medical Center after program completion as a patient care tech pending availability and performance

Housing/Relocation
Nurse externs are responsible for their own housing and relocation expenses.

Schedules
Nurse externs must be able to work their RN preceptor’s schedule, which may include 8- or 12-hour shifts, days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
