Begin Your Pediatric Career at Children’s

Children’s offers a variety of programs designed to help recent nursing graduates learn about our children’s hospital and personally experience our environment of family-centered care.

Pediatric Nurse Resident Program

The Pediatric Nurse Resident program transitions new graduates into our highly specialized pediatric environment. The program includes New Employee Orientation, Patient Care Provider Orientation and an orientation with a unit preceptor.

The program includes a year-round series of classes, both clinical and lecture based. Start dates are flexible, and enrollment is open throughout the year pending boards exam completeion.

Once new employees join their unit, they will receive a preceptor-based unit orientation that provides new nurses with a personalized learning experience.

Mentoring Program

The nurse mentoring program is designed to provide support, promote professional development, enhance communication and build relationships for newly-hired staff nurses as they are introduced to Children’s culture.

The new staff nurse is paired with a carefully selected mentor who has completed mentor training. During the year-long program, mentorees meet with their mentor on a regular basis, completing a program that includes developing confidence to question, peer relations, negotiation skills, communication skills and developing your career path as well as other topics.

Job Shadowing

As part of our interviewing process, Children’s offers the opportunity for nurses or graduating nursing students to tour and observe individual nursing units. The candidate is encouraged to shadow a Children’s caregiver for a period of time to experience our environment of family-centered care.

This is an ideal opportunity to see first-hand our technology, patient-types, patient ratios and volumes in our children’s hospital. Candidates can also speak personally with staff and get their perspective on why Children’s is such great place to work.
