Blood & Marrow Transplant
Blood and marrow transplants are among the most effective treatments for certain hematologic and lymphatic cancers. The Baylor Sammons Cancer Center features one of the leading blood and bone marrow transplant (BMT) programs in the US. As part of the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center at Dallas, the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program (BMT) is one of only eight in the nation that offers all four components of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) – donation, collection, apheresis and transplant.
Baylor doesn’t just provide graduate nurses with their first jobs. We offer you the opportunity to begin the career of a lifetime at a nationally recognized health care system and to learn and grow throughout your career. This eight-week program combines a didactic learning environment with a clinical experience mentored by a preceptor. Participants will be exposed to the continuum of the transplant experience from donor search, HLA typing and cell transplantation to the discharge planning for follow up care. Toxicities of the treatment, potential complications and the psychosocial needs of the patient are emphasized. Internship begins January and June.
Baylor’s nurses are empowered to make decisions that improve patient care. We are committed to a shared leadership model that encourages all staff nurses to be actively involved in setting the clinical policies and procedures for their unit.
