Versant RN Residency Midland Memorial Hospital’s RN Residency consists of 25 percent classroom instruction and 75 percent hands-on training at the bedside. It features instructor-led courses on current and emerging clinical guidelines and standards; clinical preceptors who provide personalized bedside training; mentors who offer personal support and career development guidance; and, debriefing sessions that create a forum for exchange among residents. The residency also uses state-of-the-art web-based technology to efficiently execute the program.

FAQ

Who is eligible for the Nurse Residency Program?

New graduate RNs and RNs with less than 6 months experience are eligible to apply for the nurse residency program. Others will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

What are the licensure requirements?

Nurse residents are required to have passed the NCLEX prior to the start of the cohort.

When is the next residency?

Cohorts are scheduled to begin the last Monday of January, June, and September.

Is there a contract to sign?

There is no contract to sign. We’re convinced our program and organization will make you want to remain employed at Midland Memorial Hospital.

When is the deadline to apply?

All application components are due no later than the first day of December, May, and August for each respective cohort. There is competition for these positions so applying early is to your benefit! Deadline to apply is May 1, 2010 for the cohort that starts June 2010.

What paperwork gets me started?

  • A completed Midland Memorial Hospital job application.
  • At least two letters of reference from a clinical instructor, preceptor, or direct supervisor on letterhead.
  • Current BLS card (American Heart Association)
  • Official, sealed school transcripts (1 set) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Essay of 500 words or less which addresses the following:
    • Describe when you were the most satisfied in your work, clinical, or school experience (past or present).Describe what was most satisfying about that experience.
    • Describe, also, when you were the most dissatisfied in your work, clinical, or school experience (past or present).Describe what was most dissatisfying about that experience.
    • 12 pt font, double-spaced

All parts of the application should be typed.
Job application may be submitted on-line or in person.
All other components of the RN Residency application must be mailed.

What is the schedule?

Versant is an 18 week program that requires a full time commitment. Time off is granted only on an emergency basis during this program.

Can I go to any unit?

Versant residents can be placed in all units with openings. Limited spaces may exist in the specialty areas, i.e., Labor & Delivery, Nursery, Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units.
