What is the Registered Nurse Internship Program?
The Professional Nurse Internship Program is a three semester hour course that is a joint effort by the University of Mississippi School of Nursing and the University of Mississippi Health Care. The goal of the program is to assist new Registered Nurse Graduates in the transition from school into the workplace.

When is the program offered?
It is offered every spring (following December graduation) and every summer (following spring graduation) on many units at UHMC. The Registered Nurse Internship Program has been offered since the summer of 2002, and it continues to receive great reviews from the participants.

Program Details
The Registered Nurse Intern Program includes 480 hours of clinical (40 hours per week for 12 weeks) as the nurse graduate gradually transitions from student nurse to registered nurse, all under the watchful eye of a qualified preceptor.

Once all hours have been completed and paperwork is turned in, the Registered Nurse Intern will receive three hours of college credit. However, if the program or program paperwork is not completed upon the agreed-upon dates, the student will receive a grade of “F” that will stand on the intern’s permanent college transcript.

NOTE:
A graduate of an RN program may only perform the skills of an unlicensed employee until proof of a passing NCLEX score is provided. The only exception is for registered nurse graduates who are officially enrolled in the Registered Nurse Intern Program. There is a short “do not do” list of skills that no registered nurse graduates are allowed to perform until proof is provided of passing NCLEX.
